The Gods of Mars is a science fiction novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, an American novelist ed for his planet fiction works in book series such as Pellucidar series, Venus series, Caspak series, Moon series, and Barsoom series.

This novel is a continuation of A Princess of Mars in which the protagonist John Carter was unexpectedly transported from Mars to Earth. The story opens up after ten years, he is returning to Mars.In a mission to search the missing Carter, his friend Tars Tarkas unknowingly survived the unknown Plant Men attacks, which killed many Green Martians. After John’s arrival back to Mars, the due rescue a slave girl named Thuvia. The story ends up in imprisonment of three women Dejah Thoris, Thuvia and Phaidor in the Temple of Sun which opens only once a year. Rest of the story is narrated in the next novel The Warlord of Mars.
